ONEBEAT
PRESENTED BY BIG EARS FESTIVAL
WEDNESDAY, OCT 9 • 7PM • FREE EVENT
“A United Nations of Music… world music in its truest sense.”
– The New York Times
Big Ears Festival is partnering with OneBeat, a meeting of 25 incredible musicians hailing from 17 countries around the globe, to close out their month-long residency and tour with a series of workshops, discussions and public performances in Knoxville, culminating in a concert extravaganza at the Bijou Theater at 7pm on Wednesday, October 9, open to the public free-of-charge.
This one-of-a-kind performance features organic mashups of traditional songs from Mongolia, edgy synthesizer sounds from China, intoxicating bass lines from Madagascar, old-time banjo playing and MCing from North Carolina, and Afro-Colombian grooves, all in a celebration of how music invigorates our local and global communities.
While in Knoxville, OneBeat will present a panel discussion on global artist communities in collaboration with the multigenerational theatre ensemble Carpetbag Theatre, host workshops with The Joy of Music School, The Change Center, and Pellissippi Community College, perform on WDVX’s Blue Plate special, host an interactive recording studio in Market Square, and conclude with a rousing, high energy concert at Knoxville’s historic downtown Bijou Theater.
